Discussion |
Conclusion |

Objectives |
The authors propose to examine the value and the function of the object of mediation in clinical practice with psychotic children.
Method |
Our theoretical development is based on a case study of a child included in a therapeutic group using mediation tools.
Results |
A first theoretical approach allows us to set the object of mediation against the autistic object and the transitional object. In psychosis, the object used in an autistic function takes on the value of the real, and a “shutter” function, closing down the drive circuit so that the subject withdraws into himself. In neurosis, the transitional object is a symbolic object organizing the relationship with the Other. The object of mediation is neither of these, and must be clearly distinguished from them in order to understand in what manner it can be therapeutic. Our work shows how the mediation device enables the transition from of a numb object, which possesses fixity, to an object of transit, that is to say implying possible circulation.
Discussion |
In contrast to the most frequent stances, in this article we argue that the object of mediation does not enable psychotic children to reach a transitional state, but allows them to restore a drive circuit by capturing a share of pleasure. This operation is brought about by the therapist: the object of mediation is an intermediary, an expedient, allowing the therapist to enter into a partnership with the child. To do this, the therapist withdraws behind the object, going missing, performing a vanishing trick.
Conclusion |
The therapeutic effects of work of this sort may reveal themselves in the alleviation of the child's behavioral disorders.
