Aims |
This article lays out the basics of a theoretical modelling to obtain the constitutive law of the skin temperature for a subject during a session of whole-body cryotherapy. The validation of the scientific approach and the obtaining of temporal evolution of thermal laws on skin temperature during the thermal shock open a wide way to a large-scale numerical modelling.
Methods |
The study took place in a prechamber of cryotherapy at −60°C, on duration of 3 minutes. A male sports subject (1.75m, 67kg, 11% BMI) participated in this feasibility study. The results showed that the human body considered here as a thermal complex system is governed during a thermal shock by time constants, being able to be considered as values appropriate to every individual. The obtained constitutive laws will serve as boundary thermal conditions to be implemented in a radiative-convective 3D numerical model. The ambition is to give the skin temperature in every location of the human body and at every time during the cooling process. The forward objective will be to facilitate the implementation of personalized protocols of cryotherapy.
