Postpartum infections surveillance through « Réseau Mater » network and improvement in maternal and newborn health care

La maternité du centre hospitalier de Mâcon effectue depuis 2002 le suivi des infections du post-partum dans le cadre du Réseau Mater. Elle a été alertée en 2008 par le directeur du Centre de coordination de la lutte contre les infections nosocomiales (CCLIN) Sud-Est et le médecin coordonnateur du réseau, sur l’augmentation significative du nombre observé des endométrites sur accouchement par voie basse, ainsi que des infections de site opératoire et des infections urinaires sur césarienne, par rapport au nombre attendu. Dès lors, le service a engagé un programme d’actions et d’amélioration de la qualité, dans une approche pluriprofessionnelle, portant sur les organisations de travail, les pratiques professionnelles, l’information et l’implication des patientes dans la prévention du risque infectieux, ainsi que la réhabilitation du bloc obstétrical. L’analyse des données annuelles de surveillance par le Réseau Mater montre, depuis 2010, la normalisation des ratios standardisés d’infections nosocomiales.

Since 2002 the Maternity of the hospital center of Macon has been closely monitoring postpartum infections within the framework of the Réseau Mater. The director of the South Eastern CCLIN and coordinating doctor of the network alerted Macon in 2008 to the significant increase of the number of cases of endometritis observed in women who had had vaginal deliveries, as well as post-cesarian surgical site infections and urinary tract infections, compared to the number expected. From then on the department committed to an action program and quality improvement measures in a multi-professional approach concentrating on work organization, professional practice, information and patient involvement in the prevention of the risk of infection, as well as the rehabilitation of the obstetrics operating room. The analysis of the annual monitoring data by the Réseau Mater shows that since 2010 standardized infection nosocomial ratios has normalized.
