Breast disease in young women

Objectifs

Breast disease is rare in women under 35. We will explore the diseases unique to young women as well as others found in this age group but usually associated with much older women. We will emphasize the appearance of carcinoma in women 35 years old and younger.

Ultrasound is the primary modality in this age group. Mammography is reserved for screening, likely malignant lesions and the older patients in this group while indications for MRI are evolving.

Cysts are rare especially in the younger age groups.

Most solid lesions are benign with fibroadenoma most common. Juvnile hypertrophy and juvénile papillomatosis are unique to this age group and have spécifie appearances on imaging.

Malignant lesions occur and look like malignant lesions in older women.
