High resolution seismic data display four channel sets in front of the Lake of Hourton and the Lake of Lacanau covering a faulted and folded unit (U2) deposited during a high sea level at the end of the Burdigalian. The next unit (U3-1) shows sigmoid to oblique reflections (U3-1) but without apparent channels. However, during the sea level fall at the end of the Langhian, chaotic seismic facies and channels developed. The explanation should be the tectonic phase of the Aquitaine margin with an uplift of the North Aquitaine shelf. This induced the deformation of the unit U2 and provoked the creation of an alluvial plain on the North Aquitaine shelf with the formation of distributary channels (U3-2). The three following sea level falls during the Serravalian could explain the formation of the three other sets of channels (U3-3, U3-4 and U4). The last channels have a reduced mobility and correspond downstream to small paleo-canyons joining southwards the canyon of Cap Ferret. These channels disappear suddenly at the boundary at the Basin of Parentis.

Des profils sismiques haute résolution ont permis de caractériser six unités sismiques dont deux sont étudiées ici (U3 et U4). Elles recouvrent des sédiments lités, postérieurement plissés et faillés (U2), probablement déposés durant le haut niveau marin du Burdigalien. L’unité suivante montre des réflexions sigmoïdes à obliques (U3-1), mais sans chenaux apparents. Or, durant la chute du niveau marin à la fin du Langhien, un faciès sismique chaotique associé avec des chenaux apparaît. Cette différence de faciès peut s’expliquer par une phase tectonique qui se produisit à cette période au niveau de la marge Aquitaine, avec un soulèvement du plateau Nord-Aquitain qui provoqua la déformation de U2 et la formation d’une plaine alluviale avec la présence de chenaux distributaires (U3-2). Les trois chutes du niveau marin suivantes durant le Sérravalien expliqueraient la formation des trois autres séries de chenaux (U3-3, U3-4 et U4). Les derniers chenaux montrent une phase importante d’incision, avec un remplissage sédimentaire plus fin vers l’aval, où les chenaux deviendraient de petits paléocanyons rejoignant le canyon de Cap Ferret. Ces chenaux disparaissent soudainement à la limite du bassin de Parentis.
