Hypothermia is common during anaesthesia. Central hypothermia is related to redistribution of heat within the body and to a decrease in heat production associated with an increase in heat loss. Hypothermia is associated to an increase in postoperative morbidity. Active warming and measurement of central temperature are required in all the anaesthetized patients. Rewarming with forced air blanket needs to begin at least 10min. before the induction of anaesthesia and to be maintained continuously. It has to be associated with fluid warming when infusion volumes are aimportant.
