Résumé |
Introduction |
The global prevalence of heart failure worldwide is increased by aging populations and the better prognosis of diseases that lead to, when women and men have been compared, significant differences appeared in the etiology of the disease, expression, outcome, response to therapy, and prognosis.
Purpose |
To study the epidemiological, clinical and therapeutic particularities of HF in women.
Methods |
All the patients followed in the cardiology department (CHU ibn rochd) from 01/01/2008 to 31/12/2017 for heart failure are included retrospectively with data provided by the software cardioreport used in our training. Data have been collected from medical files as well as the follow-up books. statistical data were done by SPSS 20.
Results |
(1) Women accounted for 43.89% with an average age of 62.51±10.61 years for women versus 60.41±10.94 years for men (P=0.025). (2) Women had a significantly higher prevalence of hypertension, diabetes, obesity and dyslipidemia. (3) However, men have a higher incidence of MI, COPD and peripheral arterial disease with P <0.05. (4) Among women, a predominant hypertensive etiology (31, 50%) was the main cause, followed by valvular heart diseases (22.88%), whereas among men, ischemic cardiomyopathy was the main cause (61,5%). (5) Hospital mortality was higher among men (8.7% vs. 4.57%) (Fig. 1).
Conclusion |
Despite the low inclusion of women in randomized clinical trials, it has been highlighted a more frequent association with hypertension or diabetes and less coronary heart disease with a survival that is better within the female population.
