The paediatrician Emmi Pilker developped a philosophical and ethical approach which she put into practice in the Lóczy care home in Hungary. The main objective of the approach is to ensure the child's wellbeing and harmonious development. Its founding principles – freedom of movement, autonomous activity, stability provided by the primary caregiver – can be adapted to childcare centres. This requires an environment, an organisation and an institutional approach which are attentive to the children as individuals, enabling them to evolve through their own means and at their own rhythm in a context of separation.
