Late diagnosis of complete androgen insensitivity syndrome: Case report - 15/09/21
Summary |
Objective |
To demonstrate a case of late detection of complete androgen insensitivity syndrome (CAIS).
Case report |
A case of CAIS is presented, which was identified in a patient at 32years old. A complete general examination was carried out. A two-stage operation, which consists in gonadectomy and colpopoesis was completed. In removed gonads no signs of malignancy were found.
Discussion |
Clinical observation has shown that in some cases, in the absence of adequate examination in childhood and adolescence, androgen insensitivity syndrome (AIS) is detected only in adulthood. The presented clinical situation showed that with CAIS, malignancy of the gonads may be absent even in adulthood. Requires the development of certain criteria that determine the need and age of removal of the gonads in AIS.
Conclusion |
The case report shows the uniqueness of the problems arising in women with CAIS. The problem of the impossibility of a normal sexual life and the inability to get pregnant can lead to serious depressive disorders. Management of AIS needs to be individualized, but flexible.
