Douleur, travail et reconnaissance - 12/06/22
Physical pain, work and recognition

This article is the result of a cooperation between a clinical psychologist of work in a Work Health Service and a clinical psychologist in a Pain Treatment Center. At the beginning of it all, there was a mutual interest for Work and Pain issues, as well as an observation: the question of maintaining or returning to employment is a constant concern for us. This paper is the result of such a meeting and an exposition of the openings that it allowed in the intersection of the clinic of pain and a theoretical approach, the psychodynamics of work, at a time when we know that the pathways understanding of Pain can only be sketched out in multidisciplinarity. Pain, and particularly chronic pain, is a societal and public health issue that can no longer be neglected and which constantly calls for new openings, constructions and explorations. We believe that in listening to work, upstream of addressing pain structure as from this, it is a particularly fruitful link to shed light on such issues. This link seems to be the recognition in work. This is at the heart of both pain consultations and occupational health services, but does not work in the same way. The authors propose to show how much recognition at work matters in the identity stability of a patient, up to the pain treatment structures where it takes a particular form.
