• | There is evidence from cohort studies that all cause pancreatitis is associated with the development of diabetes but data specifically related to ERCP related pancreatitis are lacking. |
• | ERCP is a common cause of pancreatitis, occurring in at least 2500 patients each year in France alone and a similar proportion of the population of other countries. |

• | After a maximal follow up of only 10.5 years, almost one fifth of a cohort of post ERCP pancreatitis developed diabetes, which is significantly higher than the expected incidence. |
