T08-O-21 Successful collaboration between andrologist and psycho-sexologist - 27/06/08

Objective |
To describe the success obtained by the collaboration between the specialist of O.U. of Andrology of San Carlo Hospital - Potenza and the advice of the psycho-sexologist of the Clinical Sexology Institute of Rome in the diagnosis and treatment for sexual dysfunctions.
Design and method |
The research into 46 hospital file opened in 2006, even if has not given elaborated stats due to smallness of the sample, yet has provided interesting information about the usefulness of that collaboration.
Results |
The average age of the sample was 35.76 years (range 20-56) and most patiens were single, graduate and had a good job. The most recurrent pathologies were erectile dysfunction and premature ejaculation (46.8% and 26.1%). In 47,8% of subjects the problems had been present for 3 years at least generally with no organic correlation. The half of patiens had medical treatment and psycho-sexologist consultations. In 41,3% of subjects the symptoms went after 1-12 sessions. 63% of the other 58.7% of patiens are still undergoing the treatment, while 37% have spontaneously interrupted it.
Conclusions |
That experience has confirmed the usefulness of team work and of the interaction between andrologists and psycho-sexologists in sexual problems treatment.
