T10-O-15 Aspects preventing homosexual young boys from developing sexual offensive behaviour - 27/06/08
Résumé |
Pedophilia is the term used to describe men and women who have sexual interest in pre pubertal children. Its relation to moral panic has made it difficult to investigate developmental aspects of pedophilia. In this presentation I will focus on how the cultural understanding of the concept pedophilia is a hindrance to a scientific understanding and adequate treatment of men who sexually offend boys.
Several studies demonstrates that the proportion of men ho offend boys is nearly the same as men offending girls. The present study shows that almost all men who offend boys have a homosexual orientation. Taken into consideration that only about 5% of the male population has a homosexual orientation, the risk of developing sexual offending behaviour is much greater among homosexual men compared to heterosexual men.
Research has demonstrated that sexual orientation is established in early childhood, and the present study shows that sexual orientation is an important determinant in the selection of victim in extra familiar sexual offences, and that antecedent conditions determinant gender and ages on the victims.
A treatment approach primarily focusing on relapse prevention, consolidate the present use of the term pedophilia in such a way that searching for antecedent conditions that is essential to the development of sexually abusive behaviour against children, has lost its focus
In this presentation I will demonstrate some cultural, familiar and psychological aspects that need to be dealt with in order to reduce sexual abuse of boys seen in the light of empowerment processing.
