T10-P-07 Influence of partner on alleviation of menopause symptoms in women – preliminary questionnaire study - 27/06/08

Introduction |
Decrease of level of estrogens in middle-age women reveals as a menopause. Common occuring adverse effects such as hot flush, trophic lesions of mucosa, depressive - anxiety moods or concentration and memory disturbances are escalated in various degree and are difficult to control.
Methods |
A questionnaire study was performed in a group of women in age from 45 to 55 years and partners. The investigation tool contained 3 scales: Marriage Bond Scale valuating interactions in co- feeling sphere, mutual understanding and cooperating; Scale of Attractiveness, Scale estimating intensification of menopausal symptoms; and 1 authorʼs scale concerning socio-demographical data, marital sexuality and substitute hormonal therapy.
Results |
A mean age of respondents was 52 years. Most of the women demonstrated a deficiency of period (90%). Climacteric symptoms such as: hot flush, stress, depressive moods (87,5% each), musculoarticular pain (80%) occurred in various degree. The mean result of SWM for women and their partners scored 235 which is 82% of total value. The co-attractiveness ratio counted on the basis of SKAT scale scored 97 points which is 74% of maximum. 100% men accepted in their partners symptoms related to menopause; they tolerated changes appearing in climacteric period, however, 100% men did not talk about menopausal problems with their partners and did not support them in this difficult time.
Conclusions |
Initial results obtained in preliminary questionnaire study indicate on definite trends, confirm preliminary working hypothesis allowing to initiate a proper procedure of the examination. The target group is going to reach 100 people (50 couples).
