• | Adherent Invasive Escherichia coli (AIEC) bacteria, which association with CD is worldwide well established, was discovered by Arlette Darfeuille-Michaud and her team in Clermont-Ferrand 25 years ago. |
• | AIEC interact with epithelial and immune cells and intestinal immune responses, thus suggesting AIEC targeting could be a relevant option in some patients with CD. |
• | In a proof-of-concept randomized controlled trial comparing the combination of two antibiotics versus placebo in CD patients colonized by AIEC, antibiotics failed to induce endoscopic response as compared to placebo. |
