La mise en place et la réalisation de la recherche qualitative d’orientation psychanalytique nécessite une analyse de la place et des réactions contre-transférentielles du chercheur comme une dimension méthodologique essentielle. Ainsi, l’implication du jeune chercheur prend une coloration particulière dans une recherche auprès d’adolescents et jeunes adultes (AJA) atteints de cancer, où la maladie, la souffrance et la mort sont présentes. À partir d’une recherche réalisée en contexte hospitalier, cet article propose une auto-analyse sur le vécu subjectif du jeune chercheur auprès des jeunes malades qui suppose ainsi de considérer les rencontres à travers trois dimensions essentielles : (1) être jeune chercheur face aux AJA ; (2) être jeune chercheur avec les AJA ; (3) être jeune chercheur pour les AJA. Ces dimensions soulignent la proximité de l’âge, la vulnérabilité partagée et l’intensité des affects engagés qui traversent la recherche et la subjectivité du jeune chercheur. Elles incitent à envisager l’importance d’une éthique de la retenue fondée sur l’acceptation de ne pas tout savoir et respecter l’intimité de l’autre.

Setting up and carrying out qualitative research with a psychoanalytical orientation requires an analysis of the place and counter-transferential reactions of the researcher as an essential methodological dimension. In this way, the involvement of the young researcher takes on particular significance in research with adolescents and young adults (AYA) with cancer, where illness, suffering and death are present. Based on research carried out in a hospital setting, this article proposes a self-analysis of the subjective experience of young researchers working with young patients, which involves considering encounters in terms of three essential dimensions: (1) being a young researcher working with young cancer patients; (2) being a young researcher working with young cancer patients; (3) being a young researcher working for young cancer patients. These dimensions highlight the closeness of age, the shared vulnerability and the intensity of the emotions involved in the research and the subjectivity of the young researcher. They encourage us to consider the importance of an ethic of restraint based on the acceptance of not knowing everything and respecting the intimacy of others.
