Abstract |
Freud grasped the importance of the question of the father in the process of subjectivation and humanization. The response that he offered remains, however, complex and heterogeneous. This article attempts to make Lacan's contribution readable by restoring the phases of his elaboration: from his reexamination of the Freud's teaching (the Oedipus and castration complexes) and its extensions (the paternal imago) up to his innovations (the paternal metaphor, the trilogy of real, symbolic, and imaginary) and his self-correction (the challenging of the symbolic father and the promotion of the real father): at the end, the question of the father encounters that of the symptom. A clinical case shows how this contribution is interesting not only for directing the cure but for diagnosing the new “disorders of civilization”.
Mots clés : Real father ; Symbolic father ; Imaginary father ; Death-Father ; Name-of-the father ; Social bond ; Symptom ; Sinthome.
