Children and adolescents on Medicaid do not receive the same quality of care from commercial health plans as commercial enrolees - 24/08/11
Abstract |
Question |
Is there disparity in the quality of healthcare provision to children and adolescents within commercial and Medicaid plans?
Study design |
Outcomes analysis comparing performance indicators.
Main results |
Managed Care Organisation (MCO) health plans with commercially enrolled children performed significantly better on all clinical quality, access and procedure indicators compared with plans with Medicaid-enrolled children (e.g. prenatal care performance score 83% and 57% respectively, p<0.001). Data from plans serving both sectors revealed better performance scores for commercially enrolled children in all indicators (p≤0.03) except adolescent check-up visits (p=0.08).
Authors’ conclusions |
Commercial health plans achieved higher performance indicator scores than those providing care for children and adolescents via Medicaid, including MCOs serving commercial and Medicaid populations.
