Abstract |
Urinary incontinence is a major health problem due to its high prevalence in the older population, and its consequences and impact on quality of life. However, even in the xxi century, its recognition, diagnosis and management by health professionals varies considerably based on the level of awareness and training of professionals. There are currently well-established diagnostic levels and treatment guidelines of treatment based on solid scientific evidence, but many older patients do not receive state of the art treatment. In this short paper, management of urinary incontinence in Spain is reviewed, with special emphasis on its integration in a global plan of geriatric care.
