Ameliorative effect of the crude oil of the Nigella sativa on oxidative stress induced in rat testes by cisplatin treatment - 09/11/12
Abstract |
The present work designed to study the protective activity of Nigella sativa oil against cisplatin-induced testis damage on the level of biochemical and histopathological studies. Male adult rats received cisplatin (CP) (1mg/kg body weight) daily for 21 days. Nigella sativa oil (NS oil) at a dose of 0.5ml/kg body weight was given concomitantly with cisplatin to the rats. Three animal groups were used in this experiment (control, CP and CP+NS oil). CP-administration negatively affected on the concentration of malondialdehyde (MDA) as well as histological structure of the testes versus that of control rats. Interestingly, administration of NS oil restored the change of MDA and also histopathological changes of the testes to appear nearly like those of control. In conclusion, NS oil acts in the testes as a potent antioxidant to prevent the toxic effects of CP both in the biochemical and histopathological parameters.
