Abstract

Spasticity is defined mainly by Charcot in 1863. Pain, co-contractions, dexterity loss, fatigability and other signs are mostly associated with spasticity in stroke and can contribute largely to the invalidity.

Evaluation must be qualitative and/or quantitative using several scales. Rehabilitation approaches are various and sometimes inconsistent, based either on the neutralization concept or on the inhibition one.

This paper present the methodological evaluation of the spasticity and the principal rehabilitation approaches commonly used in stroke patients.
