People with mental disorders have an increased risk for physical disorders and mortality. This lecture will provide a selective overview on the epidemiological background and the clinical relevance of the topic, but will also address beliefs and attitudes of policy makers and doctors that influence policy and treatment decisions. Finally, it will highlight the requirements upon young psychiatrists in this field.
