The cornea, beyond the tear film, is the first physical transparent optical surface of the eye, exposed to the outside world. The cornea can be impacted at a cellular or tissue level from different hazards and develop various pathologies, leading to a broad range of symptoms and clinical signs that will guide the clinician before moving on to sophisticated (and often expensive) ancillary tests. A thorough and meticulous semiological examination including the medical history, patient's inspection, an attentive bio-microscopic observation of the cornea and few instrumental maneuvers is therefore essential.
