As a leading sector in the field of low vision, the rehabilitation of visually impaired children presents many specificities. Therapeutic advances have led to an evolution of causal pathologies, with a decrease in ocular diseases and an increase in cerebral damage and the associated number of handicaps. The impact of this impairment can affect the psychomotor, cognitive, psychic and relational development of the child. The evaluation of the functional vision is essential to define the sensory profile of the young patient and to establish his project of personalized support. Compared to services for adults, although the population concerned is smaller, the health care structures are numerous and present over practically all our territory. A quality multidisciplinary care exists, resulting from the collaboration between the health, rehabilitation and pedagogical fields. This rehabilitation is coordinated by the supervision of the Departmental Houses of Disability.
