Endogenous endophthalmitis

Endogenous endophthalmitis is secondary to hematogenous bacterial or fungal dissemination. It is a severe infection both visually and in general, and diagnosis is often delayed, especially when patients do not have associated general signs. The clinical picture is compatible with ocular inflammation (panuveitis or posterior uveitis) and the etiological diagnosis is therefore guided by the general context, the circumstances of onset, and the presence of chorioretinal involvement. This rare infection preferentially affects patients at risk. These patients should be identified to initiate secondary prevention and to evoke the diagnosis in a context of aspecific panuveitis presentation.
