TOPICS IN PEDIATRIC PLASTIC SURGERY - 08/09/11
Resumen |
Great strides have been made in the treatment of numerous congenital and pediatric traumatic defects not only because of the increased scope of plastic surgeons but also because of an intensified effort toward developing better functional and aesthetic results. Furthermore, advances in microsurgery, craniofacial surgery, and genitourinary reconstruction have had significant impact on pediatric plastic surgery but are beyond the scope of this discussion. Instead, pediatric plastic surgical problems often encountered by primary care pediatricians, such as unfavorable scars, tattoos, torn earlobes, and secondary burn deformities, are presented, with emphasis on diagnosis, evaluation, appropriate referral, and current surgical treatment standards and expectations. Cleft lip and palate surgery as well as plastic surgery of the adolescent breast is also summarized.
