Although early studies of the epidemiology of fractures revealed that the classical age-related increase seen in women is evident in men as well, only in the last few years has it been recognized that the problem of osteoporosis in men represents an important public health issue.88, 110, 114 Osteoporosis in men presents a unique array of scientific challenges and opportunities and deserves the same vigorous evaluation applied to postmenopausal osteoporosis.
