MONITORING PATIENT MECHANICS DURING MECHANICAL VENTILATION - 09/09/11
Resumen |
Accurate measurements of pressure, airflow, and volume are essential requirements in the operation of a mechanical ventilator.102 From these measurements, basic physiologic properties of the respiratory system, such as resistance, compliance, and work of breathing, can be calculated. These parameters provide important information regarding the pathophysiology of a patient's condition. Monitoring these parameters is helpful in minimizing ventilator-induced complications, optimizing patient-ventilator interaction, and determining a patient's readiness for the discontinuation of ventilator support.102
