Analyse critique des tableaux de maladies professionnelles en Côte-d'Ivoire - 15/02/08
Critical review of the occupational diseases list in Côte-d'Ivoire (Ivory-Coast). |
The 25 october 1919 law on occupational diseases compensation is one of the decisive social breakthroughs of the XXth century in french-speaking countries. This law, introduced in the Ivorian legislation, has allowed the creation of 42 tables between 1964 and 1967.
However, the system has not changed at all ever since that date, contrary to what the legislator had in mind. No change has been made despite the increase in the number of workers and the variety of hazards. No new scientific data have been taken into account, not even concerning usual hazards like lead, benzene, ionizing radiation and viral hepatitis.
In front of such failures, it seems urgent to review completely the whole list. The establishment, in the medium term, of a joint commission able to suggest the necessary adjustments to the authority, on a permanent basis, proves to be an appropriate strategy. At last, the declaration of work-related diseases is an aspect which must be taken into account in the social security code.
