At the conclusion of the Second International Conference on Nosocomial Infections, seven participants who have had extensive experience in infection control and public health were invited to provide a closing commentary, emphasizing their personal views about the state of infection control in 1980 and about the future of infection control in the next decade. The commentaries that follow are summaries of those remarks.
