Deficits from traumatic brain injury are physical and cognitive. Because of the variability of these deficits, disability evaluation after traumatic brain injury is difficult. In addition, the commonly used disability rating systems have not proved reliable or valid for this patient population. The article describes the use of the most common disability rating systems to evaluate a patient with physical and cognitive deficits resulting from a traumatic brain injury.
