Myoelectric control provides efficient and natural operation of arm prostheses. Over the past three decades, steady improvements have made myoelectric limbs reliable and increasingly functional. This article reviews current clinical practice as it relates to myoelectric technology and discusses recent advances and clinical application. The advantages and limitations of myoelectric control also are discussed.
