The goal of the hair removal market has always been long-term epilation. Today, success is achieved by understanding the biology and physiology of hair, as well as concepts in laser physics, skin optics, and tissue preservation. In addition to these topics, this article examines specific categories of laser systems such as Nd:YAG, intense pulse light, ruby, alexandrite, and diode. Clinical aspects and future developments in the field of laser hair removal are reviewed.
