Helsinki Polytechnic Stadia is one of Finlandʼs largest applied science polytechnics. Stadiaʼs duties are offering higher education for professional experts, to carry out research and development, to support professional grouth, and to engage in regional development.
Recently the first Action Programme for Sexual and Reproductive health promotion 2007-2011 has been published by the ministery of Social Affairs and Health. Institutes of higher education in health and social care have an essential role in the implementation of the national programs. In Stadia a curriculum reform has recently taken place in nursing education. The studies progress according to a thematic core curriculum plan. Health Promtion is one of the nine curriculum themes and sexual health in an essential substance in the curriculum. This Stadiaʼs project wil realice Stadiaʼs main duties in the area of health promotion and sexual health.
The aim of this sexual health promotion project (2007-2010) includes improving the sexual health promotion procedures based on evidence and theory based reseach. Research and development focus is youthʼs sexual health promotion and nurses sexual health promotion competence as well as sexual health training of health care professionals. Research and developing work will be conducted in collaboration with national health care research institutes as well as with local health care services and NGOʼs. In this presentation the aims, content, outcarrying and planned outcomes of the project will be presented.
