Navigating cybersecurity in healthcare: Do’s, don’ts, and duty of care - 03/04/26
Abstract |
Over the past ten years, cyberattacks in the healthcare industry have increased in frequency, posing serious hazards to patient safety, data privacy, and the system as a whole. These assaults overload healthcare systems, interfere with the provision of services, encrypt medical records, pilfer private patient information, and demand ransom to unlock the data or stop it from being sold on the black market. The repercussions can be disastrous, affecting healthcare organisations' clinical, financial, and reputational aspects. Organisations now face a serious business risk from cybersecurity, which can result in monetary losses, reputational harm, and legal ramifications. The damaging effects of ransomware and WannaCry attacks on the healthcare industry have been brought to light by recent studies. Additionally, social engineering attacks—which take advantage of human weaknesses—are growing in frequency.
