Cet article propose une réflexion théorique sur l’usage et les effets des substances psychédéliques, à partir d’une lecture psychanalytique, dans le contexte d’un regain d’intérêt pour les psychothérapies assistées par psychédéliques. Bien que les recherches cliniques récentes soulignent leur potentiel thérapeutique pour des troubles tels que la dépression ou le stress post-traumatique, les processus psychiques en jeu lors de ces expériences demeurent encore largement inexplorés sur le plan métapsychologique. Ce travail s’inscrit dans le champ plus large des états non ordinaires de conscience et vise à combler un vide théorique dans la littérature psychanalytique à ce sujet.

L’objectif de cette étude est double : analyser les effets des psychédéliques sur la subjectivité et les processus psychiques qui les caractérisent et explorer comment ces effets viennent interroger, voire enrichir, les concepts fondamentaux de la métapsychologie psychanalytique.

L’approche retenue est une analyse théorique fondée sur la métapsychologie psychanalytique. L’étude mobilise ainsi des concepts centraux de la psychanalyse tels que le cadre thérapeutique, les processus primaires et le transfert, qu’elle articule aux données issues des recherches contemporaines sur les psychédéliques.

L’analyse met en lumière le rôle déterminant du cadre ( set & setting ) dans la structuration de l’expérience psychédélique, ainsi que le potentiel de ces substances à catalyser les processus de symbolisation. Elle souligne également l’importance des implications transférentielles spécifiques aux états non ordinaires de conscience induits par les psychédéliques.

Ces substances facilitent l’émergence de contenus inconscients avec des effets thérapeutiques significatifs, invitant à repenser leur place dans la pratique clinique. À cet égard, il est également essentiel de tenir compte du contexte sociologique et anthropologique au sein duquel s’inscrit ce retour d’intérêt pour les psychédéliques et si ces substances produisent parfois des expériences profondes, elles requièrent un cadre particulièrement contenant.

This article offers a theoretical reflection on the use and effects of psychedelic substances from a psychoanalytic perspective, within the context of renewed interest in psychedelic-assisted psychotherapies. While recent clinical research highlights the therapeutic potential of psychedelics for disorders such as depression and post-traumatic stress disorder, the psychic processes at work during these experiences remain largely unexplored from a metapsychological standpoint. This study falls within the broader field of altered states of consciousness and seeks to address a theoretical gap in the psychoanalytic literature on this topic.

The aim of this work is twofold: to analyze the effects of psychedelics on subjectivity and the psychic processes they engage, and to explore how these effects challenge and potentially enrich the foundational concepts of psychoanalytic metapsychology.

The approach adopted is a theoretical analysis grounded in psychoanalytic metapsychology. The study draws on core psychoanalytic concepts such as the therapeutic setting, primary processes, and transference, and integrates them with current research on psychedelics.

The analysis highlights the decisive role of the therapeutic setting (set & setting) in shaping the psychedelic experience, as well as the potential of these substances to catalyze processes of symbolization. It also underlines the importance of specific transferential dynamics linked to altered states of consciousness induced by psychedelics.

Psychedelics facilitate the emergence of unconscious material with significant therapeutic potential, encouraging a rethinking of their place in clinical practice. In this regard, it is crucial to consider the broader sociological and anthropological context in which this renewed interest is occurring. While these substances may provoke profound experiences, they require a particularly secure and containing therapeutic framework.
