Si l’obésité juvénile commune est bien définie du point de vue somatique, ses retentissements sont multiples et les résultats de sa prise en charge médicale restent souvent insuffisants. La plupart des publications récentes convergent vers une susceptibilité polygénique du développement de la maladie dans un environnement obésogène. La seule option thérapeutique médicale consiste donc à agir sur cet environnement multifactoriel (alimentation, sédentarité, écrans, sommeil, situation émotionnelle, contexte familial et social, situation économique, etc.) avec l’adolescent et ses parents afin de prévenir les complications somatiques, psychiques et sociales qui en découlent. Pour illustrer ce type de parcours, nous décrivons le programme d’éducation thérapeutique du patient mis en place à la Maison de Solenn.

While common childhood obesity is well defined from a somatic perspective, its consequences are manifold, and the outcomes of medical treatment often remain inadequate. Most recent studies point to a polygenic susceptibility to the development of the condition within an obesogenic environment. The only medical treatment option, therefore, is to address this multifactorial environment (diet, sedentary lifestyle, screen time, sleep, emotional state, family and social context, economic situation, etc.) in collaboration with the adolescent and their parents in order to prevent the resulting physical, psychological, and social complications. To illustrate this type of approach, we describe the patient therapeutic education program implemented at Maison de Solenn.
