This iconodiagnosis focuses on a single-legged statuette collected at the Lomé Fetish Market in Togo. Originally collected for its anatomical value as a miniature version of a larger statue at the Fetish Market, anthropological analysis proved this first attribution wrong. Despite presenting the same physical peculiarity, the possibility of an attribution error on the local merchant’s part emerged. The investigation led to two distinct identifications, single-leggedness taking on different meanings for each. This study examines this unique bodily configuration and its visual and conceptual implications, situating it within the broader framework of West African religious art and semiotics.
