La médecine contemporaine, transformée par l’essor des données massives, de l’intelligence artificielle et de l’ingénierie des systèmes de santé, interroge la nature même du métier médical. Le médecin est-il appelé à devenir un ingénieur de la santé, ou demeure-t-il avant tout un clinicien dont la spécificité repose sur le jugement, la responsabilité et la relation au patient ? En inscrivant cette interrogation dans une perspective historique et institutionnelle, cette allocution montre que la médecine a toujours intégré les outils de son temps sans jamais se réduire à leur usage. Si l’ingénierie transforme profondément les modalités de la décision médicale, elle ne saurait se substituer au discernement clinique ni à la responsabilité éthique du médecin. L’avenir de la médecine réside dans une articulation exigeante entre maîtrise critique des technologies et primauté du soin de la personne, au sein d’un système de santé en profonde mutation.

The contemporary technological transformation of medicine, driven by the rise of big data, artificial intelligence, and health systems engineering, calls into question the very nature of the medical profession. Is the physician destined to become a health engineer, or does he or she remain above all a clinician whose distinctiveness lies in judgment, responsibility, and the relationship with the patient? By placing this question within a historical perspective, this address shows that medicine has always integrated the tools of its time without ever reducing itself to their use. Although engineering profoundly transforms the modalities of medical decision-making, it cannot replace clinical discernment or the physician's ethical responsibility. The future of medicine lies in a demanding articulation between the critical mastery of technology and the primacy of caring for the person.
