A hospital may display signed consent forms, accreditation records, safety dashboards, reporting channels and values statements while patient suffering or professional dissent remains difficult to register. This article develops Medical Mooi Indie as a humanities-based concept for this configuration. Adapted from Indonesian critiques of colonial visual culture, it identifies not simple hypocrisy or a generic gap between policy and practice, but a representational process in which accurate yet partial signs of ethical compliance are composed as a sufficient picture of moral order. The concept applies only when four conditions converge: a credible ethical display; determinate moral counterevidence excluded from the authorised account; institutional arrangements that render that counterevidence less visible, credible or actionable; and a demonstrable role for the display in reducing pressure for further inquiry. Its distinctiveness from decoupling, audit ritual, moral distress, epistemic injustice and window dressing is clarified through a worked reconstruction of Mid Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust. The case shows how performance targets, financial assurance and institutional status did not merely coexist with poor care but organised attention in ways that privileged positive information and displaced patients' experience. Medical Mooi Indie is proposed as a reflexive sensitising concept, not a compliance score. Its purpose is to reopen inquiry where official representations have become too reassuring and to ask whether excluded knowledge can revise institutional judgement and lead to fair repair.
