At the risk of the adolescent “non-body”. The principle of body inhabitation in psychomotor therapy
Résumé |
Contexte |
Discussion |
Conclusion |

Context |
In adolescence, the issue of inhabiting the body becomes paramount, profoundly shaken by the identity crisis and bodily changes. This process of reclaiming one's body can be hindered by new forms of experience. can be hindered by new forms of experience, influenced by modernity; such as the attraction to transhumanism or hyper-connectivity to video games, which tend to disengage from bodily and relational reality, thus reducing the body's role as an interface between the internal and external worlds.
Objectives |
The article aims to explore how adolescents reinvest and reconfigure the representation of their bodies in the face of contemporary dilemmas. It seeks to understand how the body can be transformed into a true “place” inhabited and filled with experiences.
Method |
The reflection draws on theoretical concepts from psychomotor therapy, philosophy, and anthropology, as well as the clinical analysis of an “adolescent group” conducted for over ten years within a Child and Adolescent Psychiatric and Psychotherapeutic Center (CMPP). This approach uses music listening and bodily mediations as modalities for psychomotor experiences and sharing of inner experiences.
Discussion |
Through real and metaphorical experiential practices such as urban exploration (URBEX) enacted in sessions, adolescents stage abandoned or threatening spaces to test their own bodily habitation. Unlike screens, which freeze and reduce the body to archaic acts, these mediations engage the body in a richer sensorimotor and intersubjective experience.
Conclusion |
The adolescent process underscores the need to consider the body not only in its organic materiality but as the primary site for the deposition and transformation of emotions and representations. It is the responsibility of caregivers to design care spaces as symbolic habitations where representations of the body can be projected, in order to minimize the risks of drifting and ensure that the body remains a habitable place for the adolescent.
