Le 3 décembre 1952, 11 chirurgiens et spécialistes décidèrent de fonder la Société française de chirurgie plastique reconstructive (SFCPR) qui fut déclarée officiellement le 28 septembre 1953. Le premier congrès présidé par Maurice Aubry eut lieu en octobre 1953. Le premier secrétaire général était Daniel Morel Fatio. Après ce premier congrès, les réunions se succédèrent à raison de trois ou quatre par an, avec des thèmes portant au début exclusivement sur la chirurgie réparatrice. À partir de 1956 une revue, les « Annales de chirurgie plastique » reproduisit les communications et les articles des membres de la société. Ceux-ci n'étaient qu'une trentaine au début, mais leur nombre s'accrut rapidement avec l'apparition dans les années 1960 de services hospitaliers où la chirurgie plastique représentait l'activité principale. En 1971, fut créée une « compétence » en chirurgie plastique. Un syndicat professionnel, un collège d'enseignement, la création de postes hospitalo-universitaires contribuèrent au développement considérable de la spécialité et du nombre des membres de la société (580 en 2003). La SFCPR organisa en 1975 le congrès international de chirurgie plastique. La SFCPR devint en 1983 la Société française de chirurgie plastique reconstructive et esthétique, (SFCPRE) en 1983 dont le sigle fut modifié en SOF.CPRE en 1994.

(The) 3rd December 1952, 11 surgeons and other specialists found the French Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (SFCPR) which was officially publicated on (the) 28 September 1953. The first congress was during October 1953 and the first president was Maurice Aubry. The first general secretary was Daniel Morel Fatio. The symposiums were after about three or four times each year and the thematic subjects were initially according the reconstructive surgery. The review “Annales de chirurgie plastique” was free in 1956. The members of the Society were about 30 initially, but their number increased fastly in 1960 according to the birthday of numerous departments of plastic surgery in the big hospitals at Paris and other big towns in France.

The “speciality” of plastic surgery was created in 1971.

One “syndicate”, one French board of plastic reconstructive and aesthetic surgery, the increasing of departments of plastic surgery were the front of increasing of the plastic surgery in French and of the number of the French Society of Plastic and Reconstructive surgery(580 in 2003). The French Society organized the International Congress on Plastic Surgery in 1975. The society SFCPR became the French Society of plastic reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (SFCPRE) in 1983 and the “logo” (front of view) was in 1994 SOF.CPRE.
