ANAPHYLAXIS IN PREGNANCY - 04/09/11

One of the most typical patients presenting for an allergy evaluation is a female between the ages of 20 and 35. For these women, childbearing is an issue. In such circumstances, the potential for caring for two patients is present. To serve the needs of this population physicians must be well versed in the care of allergic diseases in the pregnant female. Anaphylaxis is of most importance. This condition has been associated with maternal and fetal loss, as well as poor fetal neurologic outcomes. Thus, physicians should be prepared to promptly recognize and treat this condition.
