Seizures in Cats - 15/01/15
Résumé |
This article, based on a descriptive study of cats with seizures, presents a diagnostic and therapeutic approach to seizures in this species. Seizures in cats are caused by active structural disease or secondary epilepsy. The most common structural causes are inflammatory diseases, many of which are probably viral (nonFIP [feline infectious peritonitis]) in origin. Toxoplasmosis, FIP, feline leukemia virus (FeLV) and feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) are rare causes of recurrent seizures in cats. The age at onset of seizures and the pattern (type and frequency) of seizures are important factors in establishing a diagnosis. The severity of the seizures is not a good predictor of outcome.
