La toxine botulique A, par voie intramusculaire, s'avère un traitement efficace, sans risque et réversible. Initialement utilisée dans la prise en charge thérapeutique des dystonies, son utilisation, son intérêt dans la spasticité fait de la toxine botulique un véritable outil de rééducation.
Focal spasticity can be a major drawback in the habilitation of cerebral palsy or stroke patients. Intramuscular injection of botulinum toxin A (BT A) can be used to treat a variety of disorders leading to excessive muscle activity due to upper motor neuron syndrom. BTX A has been primarily used to treat various forms of dystonia but can also have wider indications for the treatment of spasticity. BTX A is an effective safe easy-to-use treatment. The resulting reduction in muscle tone is reversible. There are various reasons for using BTX A, including functional improvement, increased patient comfort and ease of care, promotion of physical occupational therapy programs. BTX A is an effective rehabilitation tool.
