• | Mucous plugs do not always cause a resistance to suction catheter even though it is completely obstructing the airway. |
• | Any case of airway obstruction should raise suspicion to have a second look at the breathing tube if and when safe to do so. |
• | Ball valve mucous plug is often misdiagnosed as pneumothorax in younger children or pulmonary emboli in older patients. |
