Teratogenic effects of serotonin - 07/10/17
Abstract |
Serotonin given subcutaneously twice daily during pregnancy to rats produced congenital malformations, macerations, and resorptions of the offspring in a high percentage when given in the proper dose.
Two cases of carcinoid in human beings are described briefly. In one the patient probably had carcinoid during all 4 pregnancies, 3 of which resulted in infants who died within 2 to 36 hours with respiratory diffiçulty and cyanosis, and the fourth of which resulted in multiple congenital malformations. In the second patient, the pregnancy resulted in an abortion during the fourth month of gestation.
