This study was performed using the Victoria Stroop test, Arabic version, on a sample of 359 Moroccans including 191 men and 168 women. The sample was recruited from the psychiatric and neurology departments of the Mohamed V military training hospital in Rabat and the Hay Nahda-Rabat center for the elderly. All participants were Arabic speakers who could read and write. The participants in this study were divided into two categories: the first category had a minimum of 13 years of study, which corresponds to an educational level higher than the baccalaureate, while the second had a maximum of twelve years of study without obtaining the baccalaureate. Each category was divided into four age groups (group 1, group 2, group 3 and group 4) ranging from 50 to 85 years old. Each age group was subjected to the Victoria Stroop test in Arabic to measure cognitive inhibition abilities among people over 50 years of age. The results of our study showed that, in the Moroccan population, as subjects advanced in age their inhibitory abilities gradually diminished. Regarding educational level, we found that subjects having attended school for 13 years or more performed better than those with fewer than 12 years of schooling.
