The anatomy of the cervical spine is well demonstrated by MR imaging, and specific pulse sequences can be chosen to demonstrate a structure of interest. An understanding of the different MR imaging techniques is essential to select the optimal pulse sequences for an examination. The sequences chosen should be those that demonstrate the anatomy and facilitate making the proper diagnosis. With further technological advances, MR imaging will be able to delineate greater anatomic detail with decreased imaging time. These advances will only increase the need to understand the cervical anatomy and its appearance on MR imaging.
