Damage control as a salvage procedure during emergency pancreaticoduodenectomy combined with reconstruction of superior mesenteric vessels for uncontrollable bleeding from a duodenal tumor: A case report - 08/09/21
Abstract |
Emergency pancreatoduodenectomy (EPD) is rarely indicated outside the trauma setting. Patients with cancer submitted to EPD are prone to develop the triad of hypothermia, acidosis and coagulopathy, harbingers of high morbidity and mortality. To block the latter triad, damage control (DC) with its 3 phases of abbreviated laparotomy, resuscitation, and definitive reconstruction might be a salvage option. We report here the second case of EPD for uncontrollable bleeding from a duodenal tumor using lifesaving DC.
